General Ferrer started his career in the Army as an Infantry Officer, Platoon Leader in the C Company of the 45th Infantry Battalion. As an officer, he joined the Scout Ranger Group, Special Warfare Brigade of the Philippine Amy. After his stint with the Scout Rangers, he joined the Southern Command of the AFP in Zamboanga. General Ferrer has also been affiliated with the Intelligence Service of the AFP. In 1993, he rejoined the army and was promoted to Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations in 2000 and subsequently after that he was assigned to ISAFP. Because of his many positions in the military, he has been awarded numerous times both for his peacetime and combat services. He also served as the Brigade Commander of the 103rd Brigade of the Philippine Army in Basilan and now, he is the commander of AFP’s Western Mindanao Command. General Ferrer uses his authority to recreate the military under his control into an institution that responds to the societal divides in Basilan through peaceful and professional ways.
