ARTICULATED VISION DURING THE PROGRAM:
Basilan Communities Enjoying Human Security

“I know personally that whenever you work for peace and development there are amny threats and hindrances that will come into my way but with positive intentions I will pursue my desire to help, support and work with the people of Basilan through the different programs that the people positively identified and prioritized.”

A psychology major from the Far Eastern University, Dedette dedicated her life to community development in Basilan. Her work was basically anchored on the education of children coming from displaced Yakan families—those who left their homes during Martial Law to avoid conflict. She then held classes for adult Muslim and Christian communities to promote peace and because of this she was appointed as the head of the Inter-religious Dialogue Desk in the Prelature of Isabela and later on, was involved in the formation of the Basic Ecclesial Communities. Using her experiences, she engaged and transformed institutions in Basilan and influenced them to work with each other to improve the human security conditions of their province.
